Dear Mr. Hazelett:
As the most powerful person in the Richmond Region and one of the best of the best you need to be aware of the danger that Springfield road presents.
The County of Henrico has already recognized that this roadway is dangerous and recently clamed another life.
We'll another accident happened on this roadway... a 19 year old.. lost control of his father's BMW and smashed into the back fence of a home on this roadway.
The car was totaled and what if a person running was at the wrong time and place.
Now we have cars just smashing into back yards of homeowners in Henrico. Let me remind you that this person is of the same age that will be driving cars to the new high school.
You must be aware that this roadway will NOT be able to handle the increased traffic to the new high school.... but in this day and age... we will have to sit and wait until the next and the next and the next and the next accident or loss of life happens before we act.
Why does it have to be this way??
Sincerely,
Ron J Melancon

Let's see - what are the common factors in these accidents? Could it be ... excessive speed?
ReplyDeleteA 19 year-old kid in daddy's BMW could very easily go flying off the road and wipe out on any road, curvy or not. I would be willing to bet a paycheck that the kid was blasting along the road much too fast.
First step, rather than re-routing the road and taking people's land in eminent domain actions: enforce the speed limit. Get people to slow down. For each person who can't seem to handle getting around those curves, there are thousands or tens of thousands who do it safely every day. The difference? They're not driving like idiots.
